It never hurts to check the data

This coming Friday the CFTC will be hosting a Research Conference on derivatives markets. The agenda touches on HFT, swaps market structure and the financialization of commodities.

The paper by Michael Fleming of the Federal Reserve is an Appendix to his work with others documenting the structure of trading in interest rate swaps. This data will help to inform regulations pertaining to transparency and the reporting of trades.

The paper by Dale Rosenthal is a theory piece which addresses how moving from a bilateral market to central clearing may reduce systemic risk. It would be good to see how that works out in practice using data.
